I rather enjoyed Winning Colors; not quite as much as I did Hunting Party, but more than I did Sporting Chance. I still give it 5 stars - just a lesser 5 stars than I gave Hunting Party.
Sporting Chance - Book Review
Hunting Party - Book Review
I had been considering reading Elizabeth Moon for most of my life, but I somehow never got around to reading any until now. I loved the characters and how they were all unique and yet believable, and found the concept of how rich peers would play at being Old Earth nobles and mix “traditional” names with “modern” names.

Persepolis Rising: Book Review
Breaking the 4-star trend, I give Persepolis Rising 5 stars. I honestly liked it better than the previous books in the Expanse series (you can read my Expanse reviews here - I never got around to reviewing Babylon’s Ashes, but know that I gave it 4 stars). Minor spoilers ahead.
Nemesis Games: Book Review
Cibola Burn: Book Review
I actually finished reading this book a couple weeks ago. I’ve been thinking about how to write this review since then - there’s only so many times I can say “I give this book 4 stars. The world is still very gendered, and that is annoying.” I somehow doubt that I’ll be changing that stance as I review future Expanse books.
Abaddon's Gate: Book Review
Caution: This review contains spoilers. Proceed with caution.
I gave this novel 4 out of 5 stars, just like the previous books. Early into it, I wanted to throw the book across the room, but I resisted because I cannot afford a new iPad (and the one that I own was a gift, which makes it a treasured possession).
Caliban’s War: Book Review
The Kaylon Are Remarkably Dumb
On the TV show The Orville, the Kaylon are currently the enemies of the Planetary Union. The Kaylon are a mechanical species who regard themselves as superior to biological species, and they sent a representative, Issac, to determine whether or not they should preserve the Planetary Union. We learn in the two-part episode “Identity” (S2, E8&9) that the Kaylon have consumed all of the land and resources of their homeworld and wish to expand into the galaxy and exterminate species that they deem to be unworthy of preservation. The thing is, though, they have made poor use of their world and still have plenty of resources left - perhaps enough to last until the stars turn to iron.
